Our History

For well over a century now the McKee family has been trading in Maghera. Established in 1898 by the grandfather of the present owner. After World War II, William Hill McKee retired, and the butchery and farming businesses was carried on by his sons into the 1970’s.

In 1970, times were changing, one of the sons; Willie took a less active role in the business, leaving his wife Ruth and son George to continue the business for another generation.

In 1984, Iris (George’s Sister) joined the family business and started making home cooked pies in her spare time to sell in the shop. This took off in such a way, that in 1986, a pie factory was setup to offer Pies, Sausage Rolls, Coleslaw, Stuffing, Lasagne, on top of more traditional sausages, burgers and prepared meats.

In 2010 the butchers shop has returned to its old site on 78 Main Street with an extensively renovated and modernised shop which includes customer car parking spaces for customers at the rear of the shop.
